Early Life
Stephanie is the youngest sister of Dario and Marino Franchitti making Stephanie the baby in the family, which she didn't mind.
Formula 1/IZOD IndyCar Career
Stephanie made her racing debut in Formula 1 for the 2004 season wherre she just dominated the year, winning twelve races out of the eighteen scheduled races and winning the championship when the season endd. Stephanie continued to have some success in Formula 1, winning three to four races from 2005 to 2009 and placing second in the points standings behind Alexandra Hunter-Reay.
For the 2010 season, Stephanie continued her winning ways as she'd won ten races out of the nineteen scheduled races and won the championship, holding off contender Sebastian Vettel.
Stephanie's 2011 season was where she'd competed in fifteen races as she won five of them. She didn't compete in the Korean Grand Prix as she was a part of the season finale of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Stephanie was a part of the fifteen car pile up on lap 12 where she was later sent to the hospital. Stephanie was then sent out of the hospital with a burn to her right hand and a few cuts and bruises. Despite having what had happened to her, Stephanie continued to finish the last three race of the Formula 1 season where she won all three of them. Despite competing in eighteen races, Stephanie went on to win the 2011 Championship holding off Sebastian Vettel once again.
On April 19, 2012, it was announced that Stephanie would make the full transition from Formula 1 to IndyCar as she makes her 2012 IndyCar debut in the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300. Stephanie qualified fifth for the race and finished third. Stephanie is set to start seventeenth in the 2012 Indy 500.
